• Does the Shelly Wave Outdoor Plug S LR need a Z-Wave hub?

  Yes. It is a Z-Wave device, not Wi-Fi, so it requires a compatible Z-Wave hub or controller (for example Home Assistant with a Z-Wave stick or SmartThings). Without a controller it cannot be operated remotely.
• What maximum load does the plug support?

  The plug switches up to 12 A and 2500 W at resistive load and accepts resistive, capacitive and inductive loads, with overcurrent protection above the 12 A +15% threshold.
• How far does the signal reach in Long Range mode?

  In Z-Wave Long Range mode at 864 MHz the star connection to the controller reaches up to 1000 m line of sight; on the 868.4 MHz mesh network the indoor range is up to about 40 m.
• Can it be used outdoors in the rain?

  Yes. The enclosure is rated IP44 and operates from -25°C to 51°C, designed for gardens, terraces and balconies, but it must not be submerged in water.
• Does it measure energy consumption?

  Yes. The plug measures current power in watts and consumed energy in kWh in real time, viewable in the Z-Wave controller's app.
• Does it work as a repeater for other Z-Wave devices?

  Yes, in mesh mode at 868.4 MHz the node repeats the signal to other Z-Wave devices and strengthens the network; it supports SmartStart and S2 Authenticated encryption.
