Frequently asked questions

• Does the sensor need a Z-Wave hub?

  Yes. The Shelly Wave Door/Window LR does not work on its own and needs a compatible Z-Wave controller or hub (for example Home Assistant with a Z-Wave stick or SmartThings) to report the door or window status.
• What range does the Long Range mode provide?

  In Long Range mode the sensor reaches up to 80 m indoors and up to 1000 m in open space, compared with up to 40 m in the classic mesh network at 868.4 MHz.
• What battery does it use and how long does it last?

  The sensor uses a single 3V CR2032 battery with a stated life of up to two years, depending on event frequency and communication settings.
• Does the sensor measure temperature?

  No. This model detects open, closed and tilted positions and includes an ambient light sensor, but it does not measure temperature.
• Is the communication secure?

  Yes. The sensor supports Z-Wave S2 Authenticated and Unauthenticated security, encrypting the communication with the controller to protect data about door and window status.
• How is it mounted on a door or window?

  The sensor has two parts - the body and the magnet - that attach to the two sides of the door or window. The compact 35x35x7 mm body mounts without wiring thanks to battery power.
