• Does the Shelly Wave i4 DC need a Z-Wave hub?

  Yes. The i4 DC only sends scene commands and does not work on its own; it needs a compatible Z-Wave controller or gateway, for example Home Assistant with a Z-Wave stick or SmartThings, to include it in the network and run the scenes.
• Does the i4 DC switch electrical loads like a relay?

  No. Unlike a relay, the i4 DC does not switch loads; it reads up to four button inputs and sends scene commands through the Central Scene class to other devices on the Z-Wave network.
• What voltage does the Shelly Wave i4 DC use?

  The module runs on direct current in the 5-24 V DC range and draws under 0.3 W, so it can connect to an existing DC supply in the installation.
• How many inputs are there and which buttons are supported?

  It has four inputs (SW1-SW4) and supports momentary push-buttons, latching switches, and switches that toggle state on every change, with each input recognising single press, double press, and hold.
• How far does the signal reach in Long Range mode?

  On the Z-Wave S800 chip, Long Range mode reaches up to 80 m indoors and up to 1000 m in open space, well beyond the mesh network, which reaches up to 40 m indoors.
