• How does the BASICR4 differ from the Basic Gen5, and which one should I pick?

  The BASICR4 is the Wi-Fi relay for the eWeLink ecosystem at minimal cost; the Gen5 adds certified Matter and direct entry into Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa and SmartThings without a cloud. If your home already lives in eWeLink or the budget decides — take the R4; if you specifically need Matter — the Gen5.
• What is new compared with the old BASICR2?

  Per the official comparison table: an ESP32 chip instead of the ESP8285, 2400 W instead of 2200 W, Magic Switch Mode, NTC-sensor overheat protection and the eWeLink-Remote gateway role — all exclusive to the R4.
• How do the R5 remote or S-MATE2 work with the BASICR4?

  The relay acts as an eWeLink-Remote gateway: R5 buttons and the S-MATE2 switch pair with it directly and talk locally with low latency, independent of Wi-Fi — giving you two-point control without new wiring.
• What happens if the relay overheats?

  The built-in NTC sensor tracks the temperature in real time: on overheating the load is cut automatically and the LED keeps flashing. The manufacturer added the feature precisely for modules hidden in boxes, where heat has nowhere to go.
• Can I connect a pump or a boiler?

  The 10 A rating is declared for resistive loads — lighting, a kettle, a heater of roughly 2 kW at 230 V. Pumps and other motors are inductive loads: run them through a contactor or pick a relay with headroom, such as the 25 A POWR3.
• Is Apple Home supported?

  Not natively. The official route is the software Matter bridge in eWeLink CUBE, which needs a separate server. If Apple Home matters to you, it is simpler to go straight for the Basic Gen5 with factory-certified Matter.
• What does the relay do after a power cut?

  Power-on State is configurable: on, off or last state, plus an adjustable delay from 0.5 s to 59 min 59.5 s — handy so that when mains power returns, the loads do not all start at once.
• Does the BASICR4 work with Home Assistant?

  Yes — the official product page shows “Add to Home Assistant”; the integration goes through an eWeLink account. Separately, the eWeLink app itself has a LAN mode, so day-to-day commands also work without internet.
