• Doesn't a smoke alarm already cover carbon monoxide?

  No. A smoke alarm reacts to smoke particles, not to carbon monoxide — a colourless, odourless gas produced by incomplete combustion in gas appliances. They are two different hazards with two different sensors. A home with a gas boiler, stove or water heater needs both — a CO detector in addition to a smoke alarm, not instead of it.
• Does it need a hub, or does it connect straight to the phone?

  It needs a gateway. The ZSS-HM-CO-A is a battery Zigbee sensor and does NOT connect to a phone directly over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. For push notifications, the live concentration and the 7-day history you need a Tuya/Zigbee gateway — a Moes hub (MZHUB/ZHUB) or any Tuya ZigBee gateway. Without a hub it stays a local audible alarm, with no remote alert.
• How loud is the alarm and at what range does it detect?

  The alarm is visual and audible, above 85 dB measured at 3 m, with a red indicator — enough to wake a sleeping person. Detection reaches about 6 m. Different CO concentration levels trigger the alarm with different timing, as the EN 50291 standard requires.
• How long do the sensor and batteries last?

  The electrochemical CO sensor is rated for a service life of up to 10 years, and the two alkaline AA (LR6) batteries run for up to 5 years, with a low-battery reminder. Like any CO detector, the sensor has an end-of-life date after which the unit must be replaced; follow the date marked on the housing and in the manual.
• Does it work during a power cut?

  Yes. Unlike mains-powered detectors, the ZSS-HM-CO-A runs on two AA (LR6) batteries, so during a power cut — common in many parts of Moldova — it keeps monitoring CO. The phone notification, however, still needs the Tuya/Zigbee gateway and the router to be powered (for example through a UPS) for the remote alert.
• Where should it be mounted and to what standard is it certified?

  It mounts on a wall or ceiling using the bracket, anchors and screws in the box; a CO detector is usually placed in the same room as the gas appliance, at the height recommended in the manual (not necessarily on the ceiling like a smoke sensor). The unit conforms to the European EN 50291-1:2018 standard for domestic carbon monoxide detectors.
• Does it also detect methane or natural gas leaks?

  This model is a carbon monoxide (CO) detector — the gas from incomplete combustion — not a combustible-gas detector (methane/LPG). For natural-gas or bottled-gas leaks, where you need to react to the fuel gas itself before ignition, a dedicated gas detector mounted near the source is required. The two devices complement each other.
