• What does "4D-EXMU" in the Elite 4D-EXMU name mean?

  The codes describe the configuration: "4D" = four digital (pixel/addressable) outputs, "EX" = an Ethernet (RJ45) port added alongside Wi-Fi, "M" = a built-in microphone for music-reactive effects, "U" = a UART/Type-C port for flashing and setup. The 2D sibling in the same range has only two outputs.
• Does it need a Gledopto hub or gateway?

  No. The GL-C-618WL runs WLED firmware on an ESP32 and connects straight to the home Wi-Fi network or over Ethernet. It does not use Zigbee, needs no Gledopto gateway and does not depend on the cloud — you manage it locally from the WLED web UI or the WLED Native app.
• How many pixels and which strip types does it support?

  It drives up to 1600 addressable chips spread across the four outputs and supports a broad IC list: WS2812B, WS2811, WS2815, SK6812, WS2813, TM1814, GS8208 and SM16703P. Note: the actual number of pixels you can light at once depends on the current budget and the power supply, not only on the controller.
• How does it integrate with Home Assistant?

  Through the native WLED integration: Home Assistant discovers the controller on the local network and exposes each segment as a light entity — with colour, brightness, presets and effects usable in automations. Communication is over Wi-Fi (or Ethernet), local, with no Gledopto cloud in between.
• Does the controller power the LED strip directly?

  No. The GL-C-618WL is a data and power-switching controller: you feed it DC 5, 12 or 24 V from a separate supply, and it switches up to 10 A per channel and 15 A total out to the strips. On long 5 V runs plan current injection and size the supply above peak draw.
• Can I install it outdoors, on a façade or in the garden?

  The controller itself is only IP20 and is meant for indoor use — a board, back-box or aluminium profile away from moisture. The strips it drives can be waterproof, but the GL-C-618WL must stay in a dry spot; for façades mount it in a protected enclosure indoors and run only the data and power wires outside.
• How does it differ from the two-output model in the same range?

  Same WLED-ESP32 platform, but the GL-C-618WL has four digital outputs instead of two, so it controls twice as many pixel strips from a single point — the logical pick for large installs with several zones. The rest (DC 5/12/24 V, 15 A total, microphone, WLED, Home Assistant) is shared with its siblings in the series.
