• Why Zigbee instead of the Wi-Fi version?

  The ZWSM16-W1 runs on a Zigbee mesh separate from Wi-Fi: commands travel through the gateway and the other Zigbee nodes rather than the internet router. When the Wi-Fi is busy with streaming or many devices, the light still reacts quickly. If you would rather not add a hub, the Wi-Fi version of the same module is the WSM16-W1.
• Which gateway does it need to work?

  As a Tuya Zigbee device, the ZWSM16-W1 does not connect to the internet directly and needs a Tuya/Smart Life Zigbee gateway. Through that hub it is added to the Tuya/Smart Life app, receives automations and voice control via Alexa, Google Home and Yandex Alice. Without a gateway the module stays undetectable from the app.
• Does it need a neutral wire?

  Yes. The ZWSM16-W1 is the with-neutral version and has a neutral terminal (N), so a neutral conductor must actually reach the back-box. In older Chișinău buildings only live sometimes reaches the switch box — check this with an electrician before ordering, otherwise the module cannot be wired in the with-neutral scheme.
• Does it strengthen the home Zigbee mesh?

  The module is permanently mains-powered (with neutral), so on Zigbee it behaves as a router device and relays the mesh to neighbouring nodes — unlike battery sensors, which are End-Devices. That helps network density, but a coordinator gateway is still required to control it.
• Can I still use the wall key?

  Yes. The ZWSM16-W1 is wired in series with the existing key, which stays working, and the module has an override button that switches the light by hand even when the network is down. To pair, hold the reset key for about 10 seconds or toggle the key five times until the inner LED flashes quickly.
• What load does it handle per channel?

  This is the least firm figure: the official module page lists a 5 A rated current, the ZWSM16-1 manual mentions up to 16 A and 4 × 150 W of LED, and the supplier frames it at 250 W / 10 A. We therefore recommend that an electrician confirm the real fixture wattage and the board protection before installation.
• Where can it be installed and under what conditions?

  The module has an acrylic housing, IP20 and a -10 to +40 °C working range, so it is for indoor use only, hidden in a back-box. The mini form (39 × 39 × 20 mm) fits about 95% of standard boxes, but in older buildings it is worth measuring the clearance behind the key before ordering.
