Frequently asked questions

• Does it need a hub or gateway?

  No. As the Wi-Fi version, the WSM16-W1 joins the home network directly on 2.4 GHz and talks to the Tuya Smart / Smart Life app on its own, with no separate coordinator. A hub is only needed for the Zigbee sibling, the ZWSM16-W1. For a single room the Wi-Fi version is the simplest way to start.
• Does it need a neutral wire in the box?

  Yes. The WSM16-W1 belongs to the with-neutral WSM16/ZWSM16 line, so live, neutral and the lamp line must all reach the box. If only live reaches your box, this version will not power up — check before ordering. For no-neutral wiring there is a separate line (LZWSM16).
• How is it different from the Zigbee ZWSM16-W1?

  They are twins: the same single-channel module on a different radio. The WSM16-W1 (Wi-Fi) connects directly with no hub — good for a single light point. The ZWSM16-W1 (Zigbee) needs a Tuya gateway but builds a local mesh, better when you automate many devices. The Wi-Fi version runs on the 2.4 GHz band.
• What maximum bulb wattage does it support?

  The official Avatto page states a 5 A rated current and publishes no maximum wattage for the W1 variant, while the supplier title ("250W 10A") is not confirmed on the official spec sheet. For strong bulbs or LED strips, contact us before ordering so we can check the real limit for your load together.
• Which Wi-Fi band does it use?

  2.4 GHz (802.11 b/g/n), like most Tuya devices — the 5 GHz band is not supported. If your router broadcasts both bands under one name, split out the 2.4 GHz network or force your phone onto it during pairing, otherwise the module will not connect.
• Can I schedule the light and control it by voice?

  Yes. In the Tuya Smart / Smart Life app you set a timer, hourly schedules, a countdown, group control and Family Share for the whole household. Voice works through Amazon Alexa, Google Home and Yandex Alice, and through the Tuya account the light joins scenes with other Smart Life devices.
• Who should install it?

  Wiring it into the back-box with live, neutral and the lamp line is an electrician's job — the module works at 230 V mains. At the CasaSmart showroom on str. Columna 153 in Chișinău we can show you the wiring diagram and check together whether neutral reaches your box.
