• How does the ZBDongle-E differ from the ZBDongle-P?

  In chip and firmware: the E uses a Silicon Labs EFR32MG21 with EmberZNet (EZSP), the P a TI CC2652P with Z-Stack (ZNP). The E ships with 20 dBm enabled, software flow control and official openHAB support the P lacked.
• Which firmware comes pre-installed?

  A Zigbee 3.0 coordinator based on EmberZNet (EZSP) — the stick works right away. Updates go through the official SONOFF Dongle Flasher web tool, straight in the browser, no programmers needed.
• How do I connect it to Home Assistant and Zigbee2MQTT?

  In ZHA the stick is detected as an EZSP radio on a serial port. In Zigbee2MQTT set adapter: ember in the config — the legacy ezsp driver is deprecated. The port is usually /dev/ttyACM0 or /dev/ttyUSB0.
• Can it become a Thread or Matter coordinator?

  The EFR32MG21 radio reflashes to OpenThread RCP or MultiPAN via the Dongle Flasher. But a full Thread Border Router needs an RCP stick plus host software, and MultiPAN is experimental — keep the Zigbee coordinator firmware for daily use.
• How many devices can it handle?

  Directly — up to 32 child devices; through Zigbee routers (plugs, relays that repeat) the network grows further, and the final ceiling is set by the platform, not the stick.
• Does it need an eWeLink account or cloud?

  No. The ZBDongle-E is a local coordinator for self-hosted platforms: it never shows up in the eWeLink app, needs no account, and the whole network stays inside your home.
• Can it extend an existing Zigbee network?

  Yes: the Zigbee Router firmware turns a second ZBDongle-E into a repeater that widens coverage — handy for a long hallway or a detached garage.
• What is in the box, do I need an extension cable?

  The dongle, the detachable SMA antenna and a quick guide. No USB extension lead is included — next to USB 3.0 ports or a NAS it is worth buying one separately to cut interference.
