• How is it different from the ZBDongle-E?

  Same EFR32MG21 chip and same EmberZNet stack, but the housing is 65% smaller, a 0.5 m extension cable ships in the box, and the maker additionally lists openHAB support. Sonoff recommends the Lite for beginners.
• How do I enable Thread on the Dongle Lite MG21?

  It ships with Zigbee coordinator firmware. For Thread, flash OpenThread RCP from the browser via SONOFF Dongle Flasher — the dongle becomes the radio of a Thread Border Router and accepts Matter over Thread, but stops coordinating Zigbee.
• Can Zigbee and Thread run at the same time?

  Yes, with the MultiPAN RCP firmware, which shares the single radio between the two protocols; for this model the maker marks it “Work Well”. For a stable production network, one protocol per dongle remains the more predictable setup.
• Does it work with eWeLink or a Sonoff hub?

  No — it is a coordinator for open-source platforms: Home Assistant (ZHA or the Z2M add-on), Zigbee2MQTT, openHAB, ioBroker. It never shows up in the eWeLink app and needs no account or cloud.
• Why use the 0.5 m extension cable?

  USB 3.0 ports and metal cases radiate noise in the 2.4 GHz band and shorten Zigbee range. The bundled extension moves the antenna out of the interference zone — the simplest reception upgrade there is.
• Can it work as a Zigbee repeater?

  Yes: flash the router firmware via SONOFF Dongle Flasher, power the dongle from any USB adapter and it relays the signal, announcing itself as a light bulb. A Zigbee network allows one coordinator, so a second stick is best used exactly this way.
• Can I run two dongles on one server?

  Yes — for example one in ZHA and one in Zigbee2MQTT, as two separate networks. Pin stable USB port identifiers for them and keep the channels apart: ZHA defaults to channel 15, Z2M to channel 11.
